To my Grandpa,

Today is your birthday and you have been gone 2.5 years. I still think of you often and all the wonderful memories of you.

If you were here I know how excited you would be that in a week or two your next Great Grand baby will be coming into the world. That your other great grand baby isn’t a baby anymore and has grown into a vibrant little boy. How proud you are of your family, especially your two wonderful sons.

I miss you and probably always will. I feel blessed that you were my Grandpa and that I shared in your life.

My love always,

xx Sanch.

With the arrival of a new bub in a week or so I wanted to make something special as a gift for my lil man when he comes to visit us in the hospital. So here is what I made him, a pencil / notebook cover that he can take places with him. He loves colouring in and has a fondness of frogs. So I spent some time playing with my sewing machine and did a cute applique on the front. The outside fabric is a cotton canvas I have had in my fabric box for years that was my Mums. The inside fabric was from a give-away of a blog I follow over at Raglan Guld. Thanks Leonie. I have enough left for another project I have in mind . The trimming fabric is a light cotton with a print of blue and green frogs. I made a little flap so all the pencils don’t slide during transport. Its filled with large, wide grip pencils and a pocket for the notebook to slip in and out. I also did a little velcro closure, easier than a button or tie for little fingers. I had alot of fun making this one.

I just love this photo by Kwitham of Etsy. Its caption reads:”A Perfect Rose”:
~ We all need to be reminded to stop and smell the roses… ~

And something to ponder….

Washington , DC Metro station on a cold January morning in 2007. the man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time approx 2 thousand people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. After 3 minutes a middle aged man noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace, stopped for a few seconds and then hurried to meet his schedule.

4 minutes later….

The violinist received his first dollar: a woman threw the money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk…

6 minutes:

A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started walking again…

10 minutes:

A 3 year old boy stopped but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. the kids stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. Every parent, without exception, forced their children to move on quickly.

45 minutes:

The musician played continuously. Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. the man collected a total of $32.

1 hour:

He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. he played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million. Two days before Joshua Bell sold out a theatre in Boston where the seats averaged $100.

This is a true story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organised by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people’s priorities.

The questions raised:

In a common place environment at an appropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?

Do we stop to appreciate it?

Do we recognise talent in an unexpected context?

One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this:

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made…

How many other things are we missing?

xx Sanch

I found this piece of writing by an unknown author, and I really liked it as it I felt it was something I needed to remind myself of…

To “let go” does not mean to stop caring, it means I can’t do it for someone else. To “let go” is not to enable, but to allow the realization I can’t control another. To “let go” is to admit powerlessness, which means the outcome is not in my hands. To “let go” is not to try to change or blame another, it is to make the most of myself. To “let go” is not to care for, but to care about. To “let go” is not to fix, but to be supportive. To “let go” is not to judge, but to allow another to be a human being. To “let go” is not to be in the middle of arranging all the outcomes, but to allow others to affect their own destinies. To “let go” is not to be protective, it is to permit another to face reality. To “let go” is not to deny, but to accept. To “let go” is not to nag, scold, or argue, but instead to search out my own shortcomings & to correct them. To “let go” is not to adjust everything to my desires, but to take each day as it comes, & to cherish myself in it. To “let go” is not to criticize & regulate anybody, but to try to become what I dream I can be. To “let go” is not to regret the past, but to grow & to live for the future. To “let go” is to fear less & to love more.

xx Sanch

“everything has to start with a vision, an idea of how you would like your life or things to be and you have to have a goal to go further with that idea”

Just upon drafting out my own “vision” for my business I came across this inspiring article and many others like it over the last few days of the creative artisans we have in our midst not only in Australia but right here in Brisbane.

I spent the last week working on my new website for ‘Sanchia’, what will soon become my online store. It feels like such an exciting time in my life. I feel inspired like never before. Now just to harness that and carry it through. Hence the planning and setting of goals. Its frustrating as I have so many ideas racing around my head it keeps me awake at night…I have been dreaming about designs, fabrics and all the other projects I am looking forward to. “Why now?” I keep asking myself…”why not 6 months ago or 2 years ago”. Ah i guess it just didn’t happen then, other things did. But today is better than tomorrow…so here it is..my dream, my vision…taking shape in front of me…slowly but surely. And my main goal…to just enjoy it, see what happens and to work through the challenging times I know will come along. These are the times when I grow the most.

I came across this amazing conceptual photograph in my wanderings across the net. It’s entitled “Plans”, and the caption that goes with it is: Do we enjoy the little steps to complete our desires? What do the hatch-marks in planning mean to us? In the end, I think it’s the journey that is important.

To have my own label, to share what I love doing, to create something beautiful has been a vision for a long time. The time I have spent learning what I know from life, my career, everywhere, has been part of my journey to do what I am doing now and with confidence. Never see anything as a waste of time or effort, put your all into whatever you do, even if it is to realise that it wasn’t for you. I hope that this or something inspires you to challenge yourself and follow your vision and love the journey!

xx Sanch
